Take action

Many primates are threatened by extinction. The time to act is now.

Over 60% of primate species are threatened by extinction. Over 3/4 of all primate populations are declining, fast. If we don't take action now we could be facing a bleak future without primates.

What can we do to help primates?

Through supporting conservation, calling for change, and spreading awareness on key issues, we can begin to make a difference for primate species.  Perhaps the biggest way to support conservation is financially. Conservation is expensive. Centres have high operational costs, it costs to hire field workers, it costs to purchase equipment, and, if they are a rehabilitation facility, the costs needed to do so are very high! Any amount donated is a big help and contributes towards positive outcomes, be that £1, £5, or £100. Please, never feel like your donation is 'not enough'! We can also support conservation in other ways. Following the work of organisations and supporting them through social media, by liking and sharing their posts, helps to spread their work and increase their presence. With a bigger audience they can bring their work to more people and thus increase their ability to raise vital funds.  A significant threat affecting primates is the trade of individuals as pets. Primates are not pets. At Project Simia we take a strong stance against the keeping of primates as pets. They are wild animals with complex needs that cannot be met in a household setting. Primates should only ever be kept in captivity at accredited zoos who adhere to Best Practice guidelines and house animals in species-appropriate conditions. We can call for the banning of keeping primates as pets as well as sign petitions asking social media giants to not allow content depicting primates in such conditions on their platform.  By sharing information around the threats facing primates and what we can do about it, we bring previously unknown topics to people and thus encourage them to take action! Without knowledge about the issue how can we expect people to care, and if they do not care how can we expect them to take action? Change starts with education!  This is key to Project Simia and is what we're all about! Project Simia strives to get people invested in primates and thus invested in helping save them.

Through visiting here today you've already began helping primates so thank you! By following Project Simia you're better educating yourself on what makes primates so special and how we can ensure they avoid extinction. Please share with your friends and family and tell them to follow Project Simia today!
